Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick, Chancellor’s Professor of English, was recently featured in a Hemingway Society webinar celebrating the 100^th anniversary of In Our Time by exploring the world of little magazines of modernism.

Goodspeed-Chadwick discussed modernist women's writing, especially in connection with the avant-garde little magazine the Little Review, founded by Margaret Anderson. Specifically, Goodspeed-Chadwick referenced Little Review's special issue devoted to Americans living in Europe, including Hemingway and Gertrude Stein (v.7-9, 1920-1924).

“I focused on Stein and the Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven—German-born but one of the first Dadaists practicing in the United States —connecting those discussions to Hemingway when possible,” Goodspeed-Chadwick explained.

She added that her presentation was warmly received, and she was honored to be in invited by the Hemingway Society.

The webinar and panel discussion took place in late July, and a video recording will be posted on the Hemingway Society website.
